Deepika Padukone to recall her depression days due to ‘jauhar’ scene in Padmavati!

Filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmavati is a story of a long forgotten tale about Rani Padmini. It is believed Maharani Padmini performed Jauhar in 1303, the year Alauddin Khilji attacked Chittor. For those who don’t aware what ‘jauhar’ is, it was the act of self-immolation performed by women of mostly Rajput dynasty to save themselves from being taken as a mistress by the victor.

In film Padmavati, Deepika will be seen as Rani Padmini. While Ranveer Singh will be stepping to the shoes of Alauddin Khilji, Shahid Kapoor will be seen as Maharawal Ratan Singh. Now, as per a report in a famous agency, Deepika had been working hard for the role and in the process became a little disturbed.

A source revealed, “It is not easy to play a character who has to commit suicide, or johar, as it is called. And when one is working with Sanjay Leela Bhansali, he wants one to feel committed and feel the character all the time. Sanjay takes his time to shoot every sequence. The build up to the johar scene and the scene itself was rather elaborate. Deepika has already spoken about clinical depression previously in her career. Hence, she does not want to do anything that will take her back to that space.”
