Happy Women’s Day with Bollywood’s women-centric avatar in 2018!
It is a known fact that cinema is a reflection of society. Generally, the Indian film industry has basically been male-dominated for decades. Movies have always showed a male actor as the central protagonist while the role of actress is woven around him. But, times are changing for actresses now in the sense of pay disparity, sexual harassment, casting couch etc. Female actors in Bollywood, like Vidya Balan, Kangana Ranaut, Deepika Padukone, Sonam Kapoor and others have paved a way to bring about small but noticeable changes.
Filmmakers are now trying with scripts which revolve around the female lead. We have gifted female actors who have tried challenging parts and have done complete justice to their roles. The most influential examples are in Bollywood as Kangana Ranaut’s Queen and Taapsee Pannu’s Pink.
Now ongoing year is also going to women-centric again with films like Hichki with Rani Mukerji, Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi with Kangana Ranaut, Veere Di Wedding with Kareena Kapoor Khan, Raazi with Alia Bhatt and Thugs of Hindostan with Fatima Sana Shaikh. All films have a powerful women character in narrative.
As per story, in Hichki Rani Mukerji will be seen playing the role of a teacher who suffers from Tourette Syndrome. The story delves into her struggles and her equation with students.
In Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi, Kangana Ranaut will depict the story of warrior Queen Laxmibai on silver screen.
In Veere Di Wedding, all four female protagonists- Kareena Kapoor Khan, Sonam Kapoor, Shikha Talsania and Swara Bhasker are playing influential characters. The film is bankrolled by female producers- Rhea and Ekta Kapoor.
In Raazi, Alia Bhatt is playing the role of an Indian spy. She plays the central role in the film, that of a Kashmiri girl.
In Thugs of Hindostan, the story of the film revolves around Fatima Sana Shaikh’s character.
