Ranveer Singh to replace Arjun Kapoor for film titled World Cup 1983!

Earlier, it was disclosed that Kabir Khan will be making a biopic on India’s legendary World Cup win in the year 1983 at Lords Stadium. First, a daily disclosed that Arjun Kapoor will be essaying the role of the then captain of Indian cricket team, Kapil Dev. And now, the confirmed news is that Ranveer Singh has been finalised for the role.

Speaking about it, Kabir specified to a daily, “I had no idea then that from that day on cricket in India would change forever. As a filmmaker, the journey to that win, filled with the raw energy and sheer passion of a young Indian team, is probably one of the most exciting stories I have worked on. It’s great to have Ranveer come on board as Kapil Dev, as honestly I could see no one else in the role since I started working on the script.”

About the movie, a source had previously told to a daily, “A mammoth event is being planned to announce the film on September 27. The makers hope that the Indian players who brought the cup home will grace the occasion.”

The movie is seemingly titled World Cup 1983 and will be produced by Phantom Films and Vishnu Vardhan Induri, who is the founder and managing director of the Celebrity Cricket League (CCL). Rumour has it, the movie will be written by National Award-winning director Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan.

It will be shot at the locations where the whole 1983 Prudential Cup tour took place.
