The Kumbh Mela (also known as “Pitcher Festival”) is one of the divinest Hindu pilgrimages that are held every four years and the location is revolved among Allahabad, Haridwar, Nashik, and Ujjain.

 

Old Puranic religious cities – Places to visit for religious importance:

Old Holy cities as per Puranic Texts: Varanasi formerly known as Kashi, Allahabad formerly known as Prayag, Haridwar-Rishikesh, Mathura-Vrindavan, and Ayodhya.

Puri – it is famous for a major Vaishnava Jagannath temple and Rath Yatra celebration

Katra – It is famous pilgrimage destination due to religious home of the Vaishno Devi and important pilgrimage sites are Vaishno Devi, Ardhquanri and Kaal Bhairav Temple.

Shirdi: It is the place of Sai Baba of Shirdi and famous as Shirdi Ke Sai Baba.

Tirumala: It is also known as Tirupati and home of the lord Tirumala Venkateswara and famous for Tirumala Venkateswara Temple

Sabarimala: It is famous for Swami Ayyappan temple.

 

Shakti Peethas: A significant group of Hindu pilgrimage is the Shakti Peethas, where the Mother Goddess is worshipped, the two major goddesses known as Kalighat and Kamakhya.

 

Jyotirlingas: These are important pilgrimages sites known as Jyotirlingas, where lord Shiva is worshipped in the form of Shiva Lingas. There are 12 Jyotirlingas in India.

 

Lord Ganesha Temples: Lord Ganesha is the greater in all the Hindu gods and known as the god of wisdom, prosperity and good fortune. Ganesh Chaturthi also known as Vinayaka Chaturthi is celebrated across all over India mostly in Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Goa, Kerala and Madhya Pradesh. There are many famous temples of Lord Ganehsa across the Indain states, some of the most famous are Siddhivinayak, Ashtavinayaka, Vighnantak Vinayak, Pazhavangadi Ganesha and Kurumbithar Vinayak.
